Celebrating 2023

"We often hear a phrase from people in regard to fostering. ‘I don't know how you do it, I could never do it.’ The truth is that we can't do it without our God. It is hard fostering. The night and day after a foster baby leaves is the hardest. I woke up several times last night wondering where the baby was. I woke up and even made her a bottle. My brain had not calibrated yet. Today, I wash her clothes and pack away her things in my foster totes. We have a longing to hold them and be with them. It is a loss and celebration at times.

The truth is I GET to pray over each child we foster. I GET to show them the love of Christ. I GET to show them what stability is. I GET to celebrate the victories with them. There are many more things I GET blessed to have with each little one that comes through our threshold. All of the blessings are because we let God guide us through fostering. It is worth the pain and hardship. We could never do it without our faith in God and our agency, The Sanctuary.

So today I pack away things, shed some tears, pray over old foster loves, and wait for the next blessing we GET to love on."

Celebrating Our Families

TOTAL FOSTER KIDS: 151

In 2023, we had 151 foster kids come through our agency and into the care of our Clear Lake and Fort Bend branches. We licensed 42 new homes and offered 121 classes.

TOTAL REUNIFICATIONS: 43

Our highest priority is to work to return our foster children to their biological families if at all possible and safe for the child. This year we reunified 43 of our kids back to their families!

TOTAL ADOPTIONS: 24

If it’s not possible to return a child to their biological families, we work to place that child in a permanent home. We are excited to celebrate that 24 children were adopted in 2023! That was two a month!

Wraparound Care

Wraparound Care, founded on Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI), is the cornerstone of our organization. From providing Therapy/Counseling and 24-Hour Crisis Intervention to utilizing trained volunteers to offer both Respite and Alternative Care, we work diligently to make every one of our foster homes a healing home.

“Mom, that’s my favorite place on the planet!” – quote from one of our foster children as they drove past our office. In child-centered play therapy, the child gets to take the lead and the therapist joins in the child’s world, matching the child’s play and reflecting on what the child is doing and thinking and feeling. The child gets to be truly seen and heard and accepted in this room. This being seen and heard and accepted allows them to work through their trauma toward healing. And this room (2 at our Clear Lake branch and 1 at our Fort Bend branch) and the play therapy are provided entirely by the generous grants and donations from our community.

FOSTER FAMILY EVENTS: 11

We host foster and adoptive family events to help our families be in community and feel supported and loved. At an event, one foster child said, “They’re all fosters?!” It is so important for both our foster children and foster families to know others who are like them. When we host events to get them together, we provide community that helps them feel known and loved!

MEAL TRAINS: 54

When a family gets placed with a new foster child, our meal team provides 2 weeks of meals so that the family can focus on bonding and settling in from such a big adjustment. One family said, “Thank you all for the wonderful dinners. Your kindness means so much to our family. We are all still getting adjusted to our new normal. We hope and pray our family gets stronger and closer each day.”

CHURCH PARTICIPATION: 22

Founded by believers who have been deeply impacted by the Gospel of Christ, we seek to be the hands and feet of Christ to every child and family in our care. While we are not a church, we do seek and receive support from local churches, both financially and personally through volunteering. We welcome local churches to extend and share the Gospel and grace of Christ by wrapping around our families and children.
