Welcome to The Sanctuary Foster Parent Training Portal! We are so grateful you are taking the steps to become a licensed foster or respite home!
If you're beginning your journey to become a licensed foster parent, your essential first step is to attend our Foster Parent Orientation and CaseBook Training. These sessions are typically held on the first Saturday of each month.
How to Register for Orientation: Call our Home Development Department at (281) 786-9010. When you call, we'll ask for your home address to confirm you're within our service area. Mark your calendar and we look forward to meet you at Orientation! Please note, child care is not provided for Orientation.
How to Register for Required Courses: Once you've completed the Orientation, you'll be ready to proceed with the remaining required courses. Simply select the training class you wish to attend from the calendar below and select Click to Register, bookmark the ZOOM link below, and mark your calendar! The ZOOM link below will be the same for all virtual trainings. While most of our training classes are held virtually on ZOOM, there are a few of them that meet in person. Please note, child care is not provided for these trainings.

CPR/FIRST AID TRAINING
We continue to partner with licensed individuals to provide regular CPR/First Aid Training at either the Clear Lake or Fort Bend branch. If these dates or locations do not work with your schedule, the following is a list of licensed individuals who can also provide this important certification.

PLEASE NOTE REGARDING PAPH: We are pleased to extend our classes to members of the community outside of Sanctuary foster parents. Community members are welcome to take any class except for PAPH. Attending our classes will not apply toward licensing credit for another agency but can count for Continuing Education (CE) credits and a CE certificate with this explanation will be provided upon class completion. Due to liability purposes, PAPH is only offered to those becoming licensed or currently licensed with The Sanctuary Foster Care Services and cannot be offered to those outside of the agency.
Pre-Service Training: Normalcy, Administering Psychotropic Medications, & Reporting Abuse/Neglect
CLASS DESCRIPTIONS
This class gives foster parents an overview of normalcy for children in care, psychotropic medications and side effects, how to administer the medication, reporting abuse and neglect.
This class is required for all new foster families ONLY, but you must attend Foster Parent Orientation prior to participating in this class unless you have received prior authorization from the Home Development Department.

At Orientation, families can discover what makes The Sanctuary so unique. The prospective or transfer foster family will learn the history of The Sanctuary and how committed we are to ensuring that children achieve healing and permanency.

Pre-Service Class #7: Emergency Behavior Intervention - Part 4
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Class #7 helps foster families understand and navigate the complex situations that arise within a foster family in order to be more effective in de-escalation of youth. The class helps the family be prepared for complex issues that may arise in their marriage, with bio children, and with extended family. In this class the family learns they are not alone, and that most foster families follow similar patterns of behavior and levels of understanding along the journey.
This class is required for all new foster families ONLY, but you must attend Foster Parent Orientation prior to participating in this class unless you have received prior authorization from the Home Development Department.

Pre-Service Class #5: Trauma Informed Care - Part 2
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Class # 5 discusses how the ability to attach to a caregiver is the number one indicator of future success for a child. The class discusses strategies for bonding with a child who is averse to bonding and why attachment should always take precedence over punishment.
This class is required for all new foster families ONLY, but you must attend Foster Parent Orientation prior to participating in this class unless you have received prior authorization from the Home Development Department.

Training: Physical Aggression and Physical Holds (PAPH)
CLASS DESCRIPTION
PAPH teaches strategies to de-escalate a child and the correct ways to restrain a child when all other attempts have failed, and the child has become a danger to themselves or others. The class discusses how to escape from a bite, hair pull, and chokehold. This course is for new families, licensed foster and respite homes, babysitters, and overnight care providers.
Note: There is a skills practice portion that will be scheduled with your trainer during the ZOOM course. Scheduling may vary.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
This class helps foster families navigate the complex situations that arise within a foster family in order to be more effective in de-escalation of youth. This class teaches the foster parents’ practical strategies to manage foster child behaviors within the home and in the community. The foster parents learn how to empower the child to become self-aware so they can change the trajectory of their life. PLEASE NOTE: This class is ONLY for licensed foster homes or respite providers.

Training: CPR & First Aid [Clear Lake Branch]
CLASS DESCRIPTION
Each person who takes this course designed by ASHI will be certified to perform CPR and First Aid skills in emergency situations for adults, children, and infants. This training course can serve 20 people and will be in person in our Clear Lake Branch [1350 E. Nasa Pkwy. Suite 210]

CLASS DESCRIPTION
PAPH teaches strategies to de-escalate a child and the correct ways to restrain a child when all other attempts have failed, and the child has become a danger to themselves or others. The class discusses how to escape from a bite, hair pull, and chokehold. This course is for new families, licensed foster and respite homes, babysitters, and overnight care providers.
Note: There is an in-person portion of the course for skills practice that will be scheduled with your trainer during the ZOOM course. Scheduling may vary.

PLEASE NOTE REGARDING PAPH: We are pleased to extend our classes to members of the community outside of Sanctuary foster parents. Community members are welcome to take any class except for PAPH. Attending our classes will not apply toward licensing credit for another agency but can count for Continuing Education (CE) credits and a CE certificate with this explanation will be provided upon class completion. Due to liability purposes, PAPH is only offered to those becoming licensed or currently licensed with The Sanctuary Foster Care Services and cannot be offered to those outside of the agency.

CLASS DESCRIPTION
Class #7 helps foster families understand and navigate the complex situations that arise within a foster family in order to be more effective in de-escalation of youth. The class helps the family be prepared for complex issues that may arise in their marriage, with bio children, and with extended family. In this class the family learns they are not alone, and that most foster families follow similar patterns of behavior and levels of understanding along the journey.
This class is required for all new foster families ONLY, but you must attend Foster Parent Orientation prior to participating in this class unless you have received prior authorization from the Home Development Department.
